BLOSSOMS OF BOND
2021 · Houston
In a quiet village surrounded by wildflowers, Tayo carried his baby sister, Ife, on his back every morning. At ten years old, he had become her caretaker after their parents passed away. Though others pitied him, Tayo never saw Ife as a burden. To him, she was a tiny blossom—a reminder of life’s fragile beauty.
Each day, they walked to the fields where Tayo worked, Ife giggling as butterflies flitted around her. Her laughter was his strength, a melody that kept him moving forward. Under the shade of a tree, he’d watch sunlight filter through the leaves, casting golden patterns on her face. It reminded him of the flowers their mother used to weave into their hair. “I’ll protect her light,” he silently vowed.
Years passed, and Ife grew into a spirited young girl, still trailing after her brother with the same trust she had as a child. One evening, as the sky turned crimson and gold, Ife placed a garland of wildflowers on Tayo’s head and laughed.
“You’ve always been my hero,” she said, her voice warm and full of affection.
Tayo smiled, pulling her close. “And you’ve always been my flower, blooming even in the hardest times.”
In that moment, surrounded by the quiet hum of the village and the endless fields of flowers, their bond felt eternal—like the blossoms that would forever color their journey.
